Being able to enjoy the winter weather with your little ones is the ultimate way to spend a snowy day. If you’re an avid skier, you’ll want to teach your child how to navigate the slopes. The most important thing to keep in mind is safety. Be sure to look for a kids’ ski helmet that you can trust.

Not only do you want to ensure your little ones are safe, you also want them to be toasty warm while skiing.

Keep in mind that while helmets provide safety, they do not completely remove the risk of an injury.

“There’s always the risk of a concussion or injuries when you’re skiing or snowboarding, especially if you’re going at high speeds and down difficult slopes,” says Mansour. “While the helmet doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be 100% safe, it does significantly reduce the impact to your head if you do fall or land in a compromising position.”

Did you know that there are different types of ski helmets, each offering different benefits to kids? “There are three types of helmets: half shell, full shell, and then full face. The half shell is the most popular, and provides protection for your entire head with soft ear pads,” says Mansour. “Full shell helmets provide more protection around the ears and are meant for more full-speed or competitive skiers.” You always want to ensure that the shell is made out of a very strong material. “The shell is the outer part of the helmet that will make contact during a fall,” reminds Mansour.

Keep in mind that if your little one is in a skiing accident and the helmet is involved in the fall, you will need to replace it before their next trip down the slopes. “If you do fall and hit your head with the helmet, make sure to buy a new one for your next run,” explains Mansour. “Most helmets are intended for single-use if they’re used to break a fall.”
